The Baylor you willfully ignore

As Published in the Baylor Mug

This article is a response to a video entitled, "The Baylor We Know" by Amy Zukoski. Zukoski filmed several dozen Baylor students, all of whom said that they supported Baylor University despite the university's flagrant disregard of Title IX regulations. I state that it is the duty of any thoughtful person to hold the organizations to which they dedicate themselves to high standards. As a Baylor student, I will not stand with Baylor until they right their wrongs. I will be a Baylor Bear, but will not ignore the mistakes my university has made.

This article compares gun laws in the modern United States to weapon ownership laws in the ancient Byzantine Empire. I compared these two civilizations in order to give my reader context as to the true purpose of weapon regulation. I think that it is important for everyone who participates in the American firearm debate to understand the historical basis of private citizens owning weapons.

This article compares the current siege of Aleppo and sieges of ancient history. I used this piece to show that the siege of Aleppo, while horrible, is still less devastating than wars in the ancient world. I believe it is important for individuals to realize that our world is not becoming more violent, but simply more accessible.

This article compares the lives of some of the poorest people in both the modern and ancient world. Although our world seems increasingly violent and hopeless, this article shows that we continue to improve.
